When the one of the first volcanoes rose up millions of years ago in the middle of the ocean, nothing in the area was alive. No fish or water animals or bugs, nothing. This volcano's rising had been completely alone. Nothing for thousands of miles knew it had happened. The lava had slowly ran down the sides of the volcano and lay in hot bubbling pools at the bottom. There was no breeze on this part of the ocean; it was dead. No breeze blew, no creatures stirred, not a ripple on the water. From inside the volcano, a tiny creature pulled itself up over the edge and tumbled down into a pool of lava. It seemed to have no effect on the creature as it lay curled up and glowing in the molten rock.
More creatures tumbled from inside the volcano, each landing in puddles of still boiling lava. One sat up, lava dripping from its muzzle and cried out in a feeble voice. Several more joined in until one very large one crawled from the volcano. Instead of tumbling out weakly like the others, he roared loudly, so loud that at made all the other creatures go silent. The lion stood on the rim of the volcano looking at the sun. It glinted off his golden eyes and golden coat. His mane of fire flared as did his tail tip. He bounded off the volcano landing hard on the cooling lava. The creatures still dripping in the hot liquid, stood up on all four paws and appeared to grow. Wolves and lions and lionesses of fire rose from the pools. The joined in his roar with howls and more roars.
An immense tidal wave rose over the horizon blocking out the sun. A large ripple had passed underground miles away and sent a humongous wave racing towards the creatures and their new home. The wave was almost upon them but they stood staring at it with looks of bravery and courage. The large lion stoof taller than them on a rock bracing himself for his death. He glanced behind him, a flash of sadness and fear in his golden eyes as he looked at his new family, then turned to face the wave. It crashed down and the lions and wolves closed their eyes but the water never hit. They slowly opened their eyes but remained tense. The wave had been broken by a massive wall of stones that had instantly risen up around the island. A mysterious force had saved them and their volcano. No one knows what saved the creatures of fire that day, but one thing's for sure...they were saved to make a change, to carry on a legend.
